CERC faculty in partnership with peers at UCSF, Oregon Health Sciences University and Harvard Business School are assessing the relative contribution of three factors in explaining why some internists "burn" less health insurance "fuel" per patient per year while also attaining a high ranking on quality of care measures. The three factors are: fulfillment of current "medical home" features such as use of electronic medical records, environmental variables such as the practice style of peers in the setting in which they practice, and attitudinal variables such as a physician's tolerance for medical uncertainty and selflessness.
